The main aspects of the reform relate to the widow survivor’s pension, a longer contribution period, an improvement of the system of early retirements and an incentive to delay retirements. The Spanish retirement system, on which currently rely 8 million people, is fed by nearly 19 million social security contributors and accumulates a surplus higher than 1% of the country’s GDP.
