Valencia is preparing to pilot transitioning to a four-day working week. While central government is moving cautiously on the issue of shorter working hours, the Valencian region is already a step ahead. It is preparing to launch its own scheme to help companies reduce working hours, and its initiatives will serve as a reference for formulating a national framework.
In the coming months, Valencia’s regional government will publish details of a three-year support offer that will be made available to companies wishing to switch to 32-hour working hours, spread over four days. Subsidies are set to start being distributed from the beginning of 2022. Companies participating in the scheme will commit to not diminishing salaries or lengthening working days during the transition to the shorter week.
