The trade union CCOO presented, on May 31, a report on the relation between cancer and employment, according to which 160 000 cases of diagnosed cancers are of professional origin. According to estimates, among the 160 000 cases of cancers diagnosed in 2002 in Spain, 8000 are linked to employment. The estimates of the CCOO differ largely from the cases officially recognized as occupational disease, since during this same period, only six cases were considered like such by medical authorities.
