The 26th convention of the wood, construction and associated industries federation, MCA-UGT, will take place in Burgos on October 2-4 and in a difficult context, both for the union and the metal industry. The federation, one of the biggest in the UGT confederation, is facing a change in leadership whereas the metal and construction industry is particularly affected by the economic crisis and Spanish unionism, in the midst of a crisis of trust, is trying to reconnect with society. Only one candidate for the position of general secretary. The federation’s leaders appointed a single candidate for the position of general secretary, Carlos Romero, currently secretary of union and sectoral policy. He is the only candidate to succeed to Manuel Fernandez Lopez, the federation’s historical leader, who announced that he wanted to hand over.
