The law that took effect on January 1st totally forbids tobacco on workplaces. Workers who smoke will have to go in the open air to do so. Here is a summary of the law, its implication as far as social law is concerned, and the questions that arise in terms of work relationships. (Ref 0632)
Since January 1st 2006, the law prohibits smoking on all working sites, public or private. The only places where smoking is allowed are : in the open air and in smoking zones installed in certain specific places (centers for social services, coffee- shops, restaurants etc..). In other words, employers are not allowed to install a smoking zone on the premises. Workers’ and
employers’ unions demanded this possibility, but it was rejected by the Parliament.
