On Friday 19 January, Stora Enso, the Finnish-Swedish company that specialises in renewable solutions in packaging, biomaterials, wood and paper, signed a global framework agreement with three international trade union federations - IndustriALL Global, UNI Global and BWI (Building and Wood Worker's International). The signatories have committed to work together to uphold worker rights across the firm's operations and subsidiaries worldwide.
The company is committed to ensuring the respect of “fundamental labour rights” and specifies the following steps:
- Prohibiting discrimination in its various forms.
- Prohibiting child labour and forced labour.
- Respecting the right of association. In particular, the company will inform personnel – if requested by a union – of that organisation’s intention to organise a meeting to inform them of their rights. The firm adds that it will undertake no action to prevent, undermine or slow...
