Sustainable management practices: national answers to a global challenge?

The International Corporate Survey Barometer (ICSB) was published at the end of July 2013.  This international sustainability barometer was introduced in 2012 by the Center for Sustainability Management of the Leuphana University in Lüneburg (Germany), together with 10 other universities across the globe.  This barometer surveys and analyzes corporate sustainable management (CSR) to benchmark practices in businesses throughout the world.  It helps evaluate the current state and progress of CSR in different countries.  By Amel Ben Rhouma from the ERASME institute.  (Ref.  130520)

The survey was carried out between February and August 2012 in 11 countries and 4 continents: Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, the UK and the US). In France, the study was done by CERIMES / CEDAG from the Paris-Descartes University.


The questionnaire covers a wide range of CSR-related topics. It analyzes the stakes of sustainability, the importance of the stakeholders and the measures taken by businesses. It helps determine characteristics
