On May 20, the government presented a bill to improve security for whistleblowers (visselblåsare) in their professional environmental. They are workers who sound the alarm faced with serious violations. This bill aims to protect employees from possible retaliation and force businesses to define procedures to make whistleblowing easier. Unions are disappointed, judging that the government was too timid on this issue.
In February 2013, Labor Minister Hillevi Engström asked legal advisor Per Virdesten for a survey on the protection of whistleblowers (visselblåsare) to report on the methods workers have to blow the whistle and propose solutions to protect them more. Therefore, the bill presented on May 20 is based on this report, which notably drew inspiration from what takes place in Norway.
