Sweden: measures to boost the recruitment of young people

With youth unemployment getting higher, the Swedish government presented, on September 9-10, two measures included in the 2014 budget to help young people integrate.  The first measure is a SEK 3.1 billion ‘jobbpaket’ mostly consisting in contributions cuts and subsidies.  The second measure targets those who have been out of the labor market for a long time and who need special support to get back to it.  (Ref.  130565)

Important measures. On September 9, the government presented several general provisions to facilitate young people’s access to employment. Named “nya vägar för unga – jobbpaket pa 3,1 miljarder” (‘New paths for young people – employment package for SEK 3.1 billion” – €359 million) and planned for 4 years, they revolved around 3 measures:

  • Lower costs for businesses recruiting young people, while guaranteeing the same salary. The government wants to reduce social contributions by about SEK 1,0
