The UNI confederation announced a global union alliance for the British retail chain Tesco (450.000 employees) on June 18, 2008 at a meeting with the union representatives of 12 countries. The alliance wants Tesco to recognize all trade unions and to open negotiations to establish a European Works Council. (Ref. 080612)
The retail chain Tesco is mostly present in Great Britain, Thailand, Poland, Japan, Hungary, Ireland and South Korea. UNI explained that it has affiliates in all the countries where the group is present except China, where it nonetheless has relations with the commercial workers union.
