The EFFAT Congress was held from November 20-21 in Vienna. Its member organizations adopted policy resolutions and a plan of work that will guide the organization’s strategy and policies for the next five years. The members set objectives and action for multinational businesses and European Works councils. EFFAT represents 120 national trade unions from 35 countries in Europe and has more than 2.6 million members.
The Congress was marked by the crisis in Europe and a new president. Front stage were discussions on the new political challenges resulting from the economic and social crisis. The Congress treated the future of national and European sectoral social dialogue as well as union led solutions for promoting employment and overcoming the crisis.
