United Kingdom: companies form the key stone of the government’s new digital strategy

More than 4 million UK citizens will receive free digital training over the next few years. This is the promise UK prime minister Theresa May has made, as part of plans to build for the country’s post-Brexit future. The premier hopes that a focus on the new Digital Strategy, among other things, will help make sure the UK does not get left behind. On 1 March, the country’s culture minister Karen Bradley, said: “There should be no digital divide - every individual and every business should have the skills and confidence to make the most of digital technology”. The minister also promised that the government will “work closely with businesses and others to make sure the benefits and opportunities are spread across the country so nobody is left behind”. However, this promise can only be fulfilled with the good will of companies, who are going to do their bit by offering free training programmes. This new partnership with the government is in line with the interventionist industrial strategy that Theresa May presented in January. (See article n°10038).
