Online food delivery group Deliveroo and the British trade union GMB have announced the signing of a "Voluntary Partnership Agreement". The agreement signed on 12 May will, for the first time, entitle Deliveroo's more than 90,000 delivery riders to representation by the GMB in the event of disputes.
The agreement, described as “historic” by the GMB and Deliveroo, will allow the union to participate in collective bargaining on pay as well as in other consultations, on matters such as benefits and riders’ health, safety and wellbeing. Under the Voluntary Partnership Agreement, Deliveroo riders that voluntarily become members of GMB can be represented on an individual basis by the union, in the event of disputes with the company.
