The UK Labour government's flagship reform of employment rights was passed by both houses on 16 December after a turbulent parliamentary process. The bill introduces numerous changes to labour law, including an end to abusive zero-hour contracts and the so-called 'fire and rehire' practice, the introduction of parental leave from the first day of employment, and expanded trade union rights. The bill now awaits royal assent before it can come into force.
