The migration and mobility partnership – the subject of a memorandum of understanding signed by the UK and Indian governments on 4 May – will allow thousands of young people from the two nations to move from one to the other for work every year. This deal, which is the first under the post-Brexit immigration policy adopted by the UK government (see article n°12058), also promises speed up the process for issuing short-stay visas, thereby seeking to facilitate the movement of workers by companies.
Young people in the UK, aged between 18 and 30, will be able to take up employment in India – and Indian people in the same age group will be able to do likewise – for a period of up to two years, under the Young Professionals Scheme that the UK and India have agreed to set up. Participants in the scheme will need to have a diploma validating at least three years of higher education (i.e., university or equivalent level) and will need to be able to express themselves in the language of the host
