After the failed unionisation campaign at an Amazon warehouse in Alabama, activists plan to turn their attentions to the US Congress as well as to other sites of the US online retail giant.
It appears that difficult times lay ahead for US trade unionists. The vote held at the end of last week at the Amazon fulfilment centre in Bessemer, to see whether its 6,000 employees wanted to join the Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU), was a complete failure. Only 738 people voted in favour of joining the RWDSU, while some 1,798 voted against. Amazon, which employs 1.3 million people, will continue in the same vein: free from interference from staff representatives.
