Four states (Alaska, Arkansas, Nebraska and South Dakota) voted for an increase in their minimum wage. These are the results of individual state ballot measures voted upon at the same time as the U.S midterm elections. On November 4 not only did electors vote for their governors, senators, sheriffs and other local officials but they also voted on several social issues: minimum wage, sick leave, right to bear arms, legalizing marijuana possession…. To get a measure voted upon, all a State needs is the required number of signatories demanding the ballot.
Raising the minimum wage is a contentious topic for Washington. The Federal minimum wage level has been fixed at 7.25 $ since 2009. The AFL and CIO unions have spearheaded unstinting demands for this to be increased. However all the bipartisan projects designed by elected democrats have up until now failed to pass.
