United States: geeks foray into militancy

Little by little Silicon Valley’s geek community is discovering the joys of militancy. Although not engaged to the extent of being members of a well known trade union such as the UAW, SEIU, or Communications Workers of America, geeks are, however starting make a difference alongside the Tech Workers Coalition (TWC), the Center for Human Technology, and Tech Solidarity, which gathers engineers together around a set of shared values, namely, pro-immigration and anti-war. These groups are typical of grass-roots movements that are increasingly garnering attention since Donald Trump took up the Oval Office.

Presidential decrees during 2017 aimed at restricting immigration flows from the Middle-East triggered significant mobilization efforts among the engineering and technician communities working for Google, Facebook, Microsoft, IBM, Twitter and the like.
