The United Auto Workers union (UAW) has just made its first inroads into Alabama, one of the southern States most opposed to all forms of organized labor.
A majority of the 134 workers in the Commercial Vehicle Group plant in Piedmont voted 2 to 1 in favor of joining the UAW. Union representatives will soon be able to start wage negotiations with management at the auto parts maker.
