A New York law promoting equal pay and prohibiting reprisals against employees who discuss their pay with colleagues as well as a similar if not more ambitious law that the Californian Senate is designing could serve to relaunch a national debate on equal pay that has been floundering for a year.
A year after Barack Obama signed presidential decrees to strengthen gender salary equality in federal service providers after Congress failed to approve the Democratic party designed Paycheck Fairness Act draft law (c.f. article No. 8316), Democrats have resubmitted the text to the majority Republican Congress for a vote that will surely fail again. The Paycheck Fairness Act aims to improve efficacy by prohibiting reprisals against employees who discuss their remuneration with their colleagues.
