It all started back at the end of 2012 with the ‘Fight for $15’ movement that fought for a minimum hourly wage of $15. Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Mac Donald’s workers and so on, with support from the SEIU union organized one-day strikes as well as demonstrations in a bid to push up the $7.25 minimum Federal hourly pay rate. They succeeded in mobilizing their local elected representatives and the rate for New York has since gone up to $13.50 and by the end of 2018 should hit the $15 target.
