The European works council of the French motor vehicle equipment manufacturer Valeo (almost 70.000 employees in Europe) decided, during a bureau meeting on September 11, to call all the European sites of the group for mobilization to object to the partial shutdown of the Neuses site in Germany. This is the first time the council has called for transnational action. There were short work stoppages on September 30 in several European sites. (Ref. 080741)
During a meeting of the bureau of the EWC on September 11, the management presented its plan for the partial shutdown of the German site in Neuses, with reallocation of the production to other sites producing similar products in France, Spain and Poland. In total, a little over 200 jobs would be cut on the German site.
