In mid-February 2020, the French grocery retailer announces its expansion in Brazil via the acquisition of 30 “cash & carry” stores (banner Makro Atacadista) for US$450 million. In this country, Carrefour already operates 187 wholesale stores under the Atacadão banner. These additional stores, totalling more than 165,000 sq.m of sales area, recorded sales of around €620 million in 2019.
