According to the Sunday Times, Turkish pure-player Trendyol, controlled by Alibaba, made an offer to buy Asos for US$1.24 billion in December 2022. Established by Morgan Stanley, the offer was made to Asos’s main shareholder, Anders Holch Povlsen (who also owns Bestseller), but did not progress. This news boosted the Asos share price, which had plummeted by 93% in 2 years. Between June 2nd and June 5th, stock prices jumped by 40%.
