The latest statistics available from the New York comptroller’s company highlight a profound trend in the U.S.A, with data from 2007 to 2017. Competitive pressure from online shopping and rising rents keep adding woes to retail tenants.  According to a study, the retail vacancy rate in the City grew from 4% in 2007 to 5.8% in 2017. This gap represented 1.1 million empty sq.m in 2017 in the city centre, and more dramatically in the suburban areas of Staten Island, Queens and the Bronx.
