Eager to reduce its carbon footprint, the Danish toy maker Lego (sales of €5.1 billion in 2016, an increase of 6% for a net margin of 25%) is looking for a new organic-based material such as corn and wheat proteins, perhaps mixed with recycled material. This is to replace bricks made of petroleum-based plastic. “A key part of the Lego products is that they last so long,” said Tim Brooks, Vice President of Sustainability. “If your bricks decomposed in 15 years, you wouldn’t get that magic.”...
