In the U.K., retail staff are demanding that employers achieve pay equity between shop jobs (predominantly female and lower paid) and warehouse jobs (predominantly male).

In early September 2021, Sainsbury’s supermarkets (whose staff are challenging a pay gap of between €1.75 and €4.66 per hour) acknowledged that the two jobs were comparable.
