In the Africa-Middle East region, the South African group Shoprite is leading the ranking of the 10 largest grocery retailers. In the North of Sahara, the Arabic-Gulf based firms (Majid Al Futtaim, LuLu and the Saudi Panda) concentrate store expansion in the Gulf and also in neighbouring countries such as Egypt and Oman, both via hypermarkets and convenience stores such as Pandati and Carrefour Market.
