At the end of January 2021, the Swedish furniture giant Ikea announced an intention to sell spare parts in order to comply with the C.S.R. policy. As an example, Ikea wants to sell individual chair legs and sofas, armrests and sofa covers, replacement nuts and bolts, all currently at no charge. According to Lena Pripp-Kovac, Head of Sustainability at Inter-Ikea, the aim is to extend product lifetimes and make them more accessible. No launch date has been announced. In 2020, Ikea entered the second-hand market, taking used furniture from customers. Non-upholstered items such as Billy bookcases, stools or desks are refurbished. Customers are given Ikea vouchers of up to 50% of the original price. Although 98% of new wood comes from responsibly managed forests, Ikea wants at least 30% to be from recycle sources by 2030.
