Faced with inflation caused by tensions with Iran, the UAE Ministry of Economy has intensified controls on basic commodities. Between February 28, 2026 – the start of the conflict – and March 17, the Ministry received 1,994 consumer complaints regarding price levels. Out of the 8,168 inspections carried out, 216 resulted in fines, ranging from €500 to €50,000, according to The National. The Ministry also issued 729 warnings against retailers, which had increased their rates illegally.
