Germany: pensioners in work already common practice, study shows
As the German government steps up measures to encourage people to stay in work beyond the legal retirement age, a new study by the Institute of Economic and Social Research (WSI) – an independent academic institute within the Hans Böckler foundation of German trade unions – shows that this practice is already widespread in the country. Based on a survey of works councils from 3,700 companies and public institutions, the study also details the origins of these working retirees, the types of companies and positions they occupy, and their employment status.
