Belgium: adoption of cross-industry agreement by the trade unions

Three Belgian trade-union confederations, the CSC, the FGTB and CGSLB adopted the cross-industry draft agreement decided on December 21st 2006 and which had been subjected to approval by member organizations (see story n° 061296). On the employers' side, the agreement should be validated on next January 25th, which will then mark the launching of the negotiations at the sectoral level. (Ref. 070055)

The general council of the Confederation of Christian trade unions (CSC) approved the draft cross-industry agreement with 92.2% of “yes”. “The gross increase of the guaranteed minimum monthly wages, the safeguard of the mechanism of automatic wage indexing (…) involved the adhesion of a very vast majority of militants”, explains the CSC, noting that the debates within the organization were sharp. Probably a little less than at the FGTB, since the second great trade-union confederation approved
