Two Royal Decrees issued on August 12, 2008 on conventional prepension were published in the Official Gazette (Moniteur Belge) on August 28, 2008. In keeping with the Generations Pact - the agreement signed by the Social Partners in 2006 - the prepension system was made consistent with the standard rules applying to job seekers and forces a number of prepensioners to make themselves available to look for a job. Prepension is a system created in 1974 which enables dismissed workers to combine unemployment and temporary monthly additional allowances paid for by their former employer, under certain circumstances.
