On December 22, 2008, the Belgian social partners adopted the 2009-10 interprofessional agreement, in cooperation with the government, which reconciles unions' major claims concerning the growth of employees' purchasing power and employers' claims to control labor costs to keep the Belgian economy competitive. In 2009 and 2010, wages will be indexed to inflation, which the social partners assessed around 5.1% for these two years. In addition to this indexation, employees may enjoy wage increases which won’t exceed €125 in 2009 and €250 in 2010. These maximum budgets will be defined during the next negotiation rounds at sectoral and company-level.
