The German DGB will open an office in Brazil in partnership with the Central Workers’ Union (Central Unica dos Trabalhadores, CUT) and the Social Observatory Institute (Instituto Observatorio Social). According to the CUT union’s website, opening this office in Sao Paulo, financial capital of Brazil, should help develop inter-union networks between Germany and Latin America. Indeed, this DGB office will serve as a platform to organize training in union politics in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Venezuela and Colombia. Nina Alexandra Berg, executive director of the German confederation, went to the economic capital of Brazil for a week to prepare for the opening of the DBG’s office. The DGB represents 8.5M workers in Germany. We don’t know when the office should open since all set-up formalities haven’t been settled with the Brazilian administration.
