Workers in the Brazilian oil industry are getting an 8.56 percent wage increase via the new collective labor agreement 2013/15, signed on Monday, October 28, 2013 by the FUP union (Gas Workers Unified Federation, affiliated with the biggest union confederation) and the public oil company, Petrobrás. The deal signed after one week of strike and demonstrations, sometimes violently repressed, against the auctioning of exploitation on a major offshore oil deposit, won by Total, notably. Within this framework, the FUP secured the creation of a guarantee fund for the employees of subcontracting firms. (Ref. 130683)
The new collective agreement supervising working conditions in the oil industry was signed one week after the tense auctioning of the huge pre-saliferous oil field in Libra, off the southeastern coast of Brazil, 7 kilometers deep. 1,100 soldiers and police officers were mobilized against the 300 demonstrators gathered in the well-off neighborhood of Barra de Tijuca, in the west end of the town, where the auction took place.
