Brazil: three orange juice majors sentenced to pay €36.7 million for subcontracting fraud

On March 31, three orange juice majors were sentenced to pay a fine amounting to BRL 110 million (€36.7m) for subcontracting fraud.  In addition to Cutrale and Fischer, two Brazilian companies, the second-instance ruling also covers Louis Dreyfus (French).  It sanctions “20 years of abuse” in terms of labor law in the sector, Planet Labor learned from the regional labor prosecutor of Campinas (São Paulo), who initiated the court action.

The three largest orange juice companies in the world were sentenced to pay BRL 110 million (€36.7m) for subcontracting fraud for several years. The regional labor court of Campinas (São Paulo State) partly confirmed, on Monday, March 31, the first-instance ruling issued last year, in March 2013.
