The number of low-skilled immigrants, both from and outside Europe will fall after Brexit. This was the promise made by PM Theresa May on 02 October that has angered UK’s employers. The Conservative’s post-Brexit plan is currently as follows: after March 2019 there will be no free movement and Europeans will not have priority over other foreigners. However highly skilled workers will have priority. The PM’s target is to lower annual net migration to fewer than 100,000. “A UK|EU trade agreement could allow for reciprocal labor movement,” the PM noted. Carolyn Fairbairn, CBI Director-General stated, “By dismissing the importance of low skilled workers to the UK economy, the government risks harming businesses and living standards now and in the future.” The government has promised to publish a post-Brexit migration White Paper this autumn.
