Chile: the labor code will punish mobbing

Suspended for several years, the bill which recognizes the mobbing concept has been adopted by Chilean MPs. There will be economic sanctions against the authors. Mobbing does not have to come from a superior and can be observed between workers on the same level. People doing this can be dismissed with no compensation. (Ref. 080389)

The anti-mobbing bill, which still needs to go through the Senate after being adopted by the Chilean congress, provides that bullying at work (acoso laboral) is a practice which violates human beings’ fundamental rights and is not compatible with the principle of the respect of dignity of the person. Workers get 60 days to tell the labor inspectorate about the harassment they feel they have undergone. It is this institution which will have to apply possible sanctions. The amendment of the Labor
