On February 13, 2007, the main bottling company for the Coca-Cola drinks, Coca-Cola Enterprise (70,000 employees ), announced to the united states a $1.7 billion loss for 2006’s last trimester, and that, as a consequence, a restructuring plan with 3,500 job cuts. The EWC is denouncing the fact that it was not informed. (Ref. 070356)
“The announced job cuts mainly concern the workforce in northern America”, explained Alain Van Perteghem, president of Coca-Cola Enterprise’s EWC, “but jobs are also going to be suppressed in Europe. This is why we had to be informed”. In addition, when approached by the international union confederation UITA, the unionist consulted the EWC’s members to participate in a “transatlantic action” to support the American and Canadian unions opposed to this restructuring plan.
