Denmark: average annual working time is below 1600 hours

Danes work less than 1600 hours a year, whereas the average in OECD countries is around 1700 hours. The 37-hour work week is a vested right. (Ref. 061021)

The OECD has studied the annual working time in its member countries in 2005. Greece is where people work the most (2053 hours a year) and Norway is the place where they work the least (1360 hours a year). Between these two ends, Denmark (1581 hours a year) is behind the United States (1804 hours a year) but in front of France (1535 hours a year).

« If Danes worked 1700 hours a year (as the Finns, for instance), this would be the equivalent of 200.000 additional jobs », says Mads Lundby Hansen,
