In this area, public expenditure exceeds DKK 70 billion (nearly €9.4bn) annually, plus DKK 40 billion (nearly €5.4bn) paid by businesses for sick leaves, for a total of DKK 110 billion (over €14.7bn) each year. DA also points to the negative impact of this increase for the new generations, since one or both parents of 120,000 children are outside the labor market because of their health, i.e. 12% of all children under 16, combined with 7% of 16-29 year-olds who don’t work or study.
