The American Communications Workers of America – CWA, 700.000 members – and the German union confederation Ver.di (2.4 million members) announced, on April 3, 2008, the creation of a new union, called T-Union, to represent and defend employees from T-Mobile, a subsidiary of the German group Deutsche Telekom, both in the United States and in Europe. This way,
the two union organizations are hoping to organize this division’s employees to
get collective bargaining rights throughout the world, notably in the United
States where T-Mobile’s local management refuses to acknowledge the CWA union
and to grant the 36.000 American employees the right to collective bargaining. According
to the CWA, this is “the first-ever union to represent and unite workers in the
U.S. and Europe”.
