EU: a European Commission report studies the impact of the new EWC Directive on arrangements for workers’ information and consultation

Directive 2009/38 on European Works Councils required the European Commission to deliver a report by 05 June 2016 that would evaluate the Directive’s transposition, and include proposals to meet any shortcomings identified, with the undercurrent of a revision to the Directive resting just below the surface.

The report is at a draft stage but it does give an idea of what the European Commission is working on, and its contents will contribute to a report on the implementation of the directive and of any possible revision, due by mid-2016. A synthesis of this report, which was built on interviews with employee and business leaders’ interviews, was sent to the European social partners for their opinions.
