EU: European Commission launches consultation on the adoption of quotas for women on boards

Only 24 of the largest companies in Europe have signed the commitment declaration launched by Commissioner Reding last year to have at least 30 percent of women on boards by 2015 and 40 percent by 2020.  In a report published on Monday, March 5, the European Commission reminds that surveys have shown that businesses with more women on their boards have better economic performances.  In addition to the positive effects on corporate ethics and governance, the report adds that having more women in management positions would mirror the market as women control about 70 % of global consumer spending.
