EU: European Commission postpones the launching of a consultation on labor law evolutions

The green Book labor law evolutions, which was due to be adopted by the College of Commissioners in the coming days, was postponed sine die. Elaborated in a rather confidential way within the Directorate General for Employment and Social Affairs of the European Commission, this plan was due to open a consultation on the necessary modernization of the labor law to take into account the new organizations of work and firms. Among the firmest opponents, the European employers (Unice) which, in a letter sent on October 3rd to the President of the Commission, José Manuel Barroso, ask for the rewriting of the text. Named « Adapting labor law to guarantee flexibility and security for all », the draft green Book was due to open a consultation on the necessary adaptations of the labour law to take into account the new job realities. While the plan was in internal consultation (in other Directorate Generals of the Commission), its adoption was postponed without more detailed information.
