EU: European Parliament and Council of Ministers reach agreement on services directive and REACH regulation

One awaits its publication in the Official Journal of the EU (OJEU), the other must yet be adopted formally by the Council of Ministers. These two texts are the result of compromises. The European Parliament took a significant part in order to reconcile antagonistic interests. (Ref. 061254)

Signature of the “services” directive. The president of the European Parliament and the president of the Council of Ministers, signed in public, on December 12th , the “services” directive, which must now be published in the OJEU in order to come into effect. This directive which liberalises the services without sacrificing the respect of the national laws owes a lot to Euro MPs. Between now and 2010, the expiration date of its transposition, the Member States must have 1° raised the obstacles
