The executive committee of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) should adopt today the analysis of the labor market, developed jointly with the employers organizations BusinessEurope, UEAPME and CEEP, which already adopted this text. This document, which will be presented during the tripartite social summit on October 18, 2007, includes recommendations to Member States governments and to the European Commission as part of the important maneuvers in preparation, both at the national and at the European level, to reach Lisbon's goals and make the European Union a competitive economy with full employment. One year’s negotiations were necessary for the European social partners to draw up this joint analysis on the labour market’s challenges and agree on a series of recommendations. This thick document, which compiles data on employmet in Europe (see our article n° 070547) and highlights the labour market’s challenges is interesting mostly because of its recommendations part. The recommendations get onto many topics, from macro-economic policies to social cohesion through education and training.
