EU: gas social partners officially ask the Commission to improve the social dimension of its future energy strategy

Initiatives.  “The recent proposals of the European Commission (…) do not take sufficient account of the profound changes in the energy industry and their impact on the companies, employment and working conditions” the social partners write.  The joint statement, adopted at the last Plenary Sectoral Social Dialogue Meeting on November 15, lists the fears the social partners have been expressing for several months now as regards the European Commission’s energy-related initiatives.  On November 10, the Commission presented a communication defining strategic priorities for the coming decade, proposing tools to reduce energy consumption while maintain a competitive industry in Europe and at global level.  In October, it also published a draft regulation on energy infrastructures, listing priority tracks for the gas, electricity and oil industries.
