EU: labour costs increase by 2.6% over one year

Total hourly labour costs in the UE25 increased by 2.6% in the third quarter 2006, down from 2.8% in the previous quarter, indicated on December 14th 2006, Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. (Ref. 061280)

In the euro area, the total cost of labour increased at an annual rate of 2% in nominal terms during the third quarter 2006, down from 2.3% in the previous quarter. The two main components of labour costs are salaries and wages, and non-wage costs. In the EU 25, salaries and wages rose by 2.8% in the third quarter 2006, and non-wage costs by 1.7%.
